Alan K. Halfenger joined ACA Compliance Group as a Partner in the Boston office in January 2016. In this role, Alan provides regulatory and governance consulting services for hedge funds, asset managers, private equity firms, and venture funds, as well as global investment banks and broker-dealers. Leveraging his experience as a former Global CCO, Alan focuses his practice on helping CCOs and GCs develop cost-effective compliance solutions through budgeting, outsourcing, and compliance technology. Alan also serves as ACA’s subject matter expert on global anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, and OFAC matters. Alan is the global head of ACA’s diversified financial services practice, leading the development of the firm’s relationship management program. He is also the lead product manager for the Compliance Support Solutions product suite and a variety of strategic technology initiatives. As a Partner, Alan serves on ACA’s Outsourcing Committee and the Sales and Marketing Committee.
Prior to joining ACA, Alan served as the Global Chief Compliance Officer for Bain Capital LLC, where he supported the firm’s private equity, venture, credit, fund of funds, and hedge fund advisers. During his 10 years at Bain, he developed the global compliance, control, and risk programs and served on a variety of the firm’s management, trading, risk, and technology committees. Alan has also served in various legal and compliance roles at JPMorgan, Citi, Price Waterhouse, and NatWest Capital Markets that focused on private banking, retail brokerage, asset management, research, investment banking, and trading businesses.
Alan earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the NYU Stern School of Business and his Juris Doctor degree from the Syracuse University College of Law. Alan will start an MBA program in October 2016, and he is currently studying Mandarin. He has held the Series 4, 7, 9, 10, 24, 53, and 63 licenses. Recently, Alan was honored as one of the Top Minds 2016 by Compliance Week magazine and was a presenter at an SEC Private Funds Unit internal training program.
Alan is a member of several industry associations and working groups and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and training programs on subjects related to regulatory compliance, audit and controls, risk, data security, governance, and technology. He has also published numerous articles on compliance management; technology; program development, and broker-dealer issues.
Alan is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Atrium School in Watertown, MA, the Board of Advisers for the Syracuse University College of Law, and the Ethics Committee of USA Archery. His volunteer activities include the Bottom Line, the Boston Urban Debate League, Vietnam Veterans of America-VVA 421, and Boston Children’s Hospital. He is an avid ocean kayaker and martial artist. He lives in Boston with his wife and daughter.
